Forever Moving Forward was developed as a result of three women, Akilah Baker (Founder), Kamilah Baker (Co-Founder) and Jovan Johnson (Co-Founder) who began brainstorming ideas for an organization that could help young girls deal with the short and long-term challenges of being an adolescent, as well as, moving from adolescence to adulthood. As the founders and staff worked extensively with girls from various communities, it became more and more evident that young girls everywhere were facing the same challenges. Understanding these challenges, the founders and staff sought to establish an organization geared toward empowering young ladies by providing them with the tools and strategies they would need in an effort to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. Forever Moving Forward was established on the principles of fostering mentoring relationships with youth ages 7 to 18, providing educational opportunities and exposure, developing self-awareness/self-esteem, and creating self-sufficiency.
